Toyota yet to inform VN importers about faulty cars
2010-0204
Vietnamese auto importers said they have not received an official statement from Toyota concerning a recall of millions of vehicles with faulty gas pedals.
Local customers who have bought imported Toyota cars are now concerned and have been calling their dealerships repeatedly for more information.
The giant Japanese automaker recalled around 1.8 million vehicles in Europe on January 29, the latest in a series of recalls due to possible defects in almost eight million Toyota cars worldwide.
The problem lies with potentially faulty gas pedals, which in rare cases can become worn and harder to depress. In some instances, the gas pedal can even become stuck in a partially depressed position.
The models that Toyota has recalled include the RAV4, Corolla, Yaris, Auris, Avensis, Verso, Avalon, and Camry.
Toyota vehicles sold at Vietnam Investment and Service Auto Company (VAutoClub) dealerships are not amongst those being recalled.
The company’s sales department head in Ho Chi Minh City, Nguyen Hoang Trung, said if customers are uneasy, they can take their cars to the company’s warranty centers for a free check.
