New criteria for assessment of imported cars to be applied
2011-0128
The Customs General Department will readjust the minimum prices of imported cars, including brand new and second-hand ones, as the bases of assessment, starting from January 29th.
Officials said that under the new criteria of assessment, the minimum prices of middle class cars will rise by US$ 500-1,500 and the new prices of luxury cars may even increase by several thousands of dollars in comparison to those in 2010.
For example, a 7-seat Acura with cylinder capacity of 3.664 litters made in Canada in 2008 will now be assessed at US$ 35,000 instead of US$ 34,500 in 2010, while a 5-seat Toyota Corolla XLi with cylinder capacity of 1.6 litres will be US$ 11,000, up by US$ 1,500.
The Customs Office said that the new calculation is part of its active measures to prevent importers from avoiding import taxes by trying to undervalue imported cars when they declare them at the customs inspections.
