Toyota slashes Vietnam output to a third after Japan earthquake
2011-0519
Toyota Motors Vietnam has cut production by 70 per cent due to a slowdown in supply of parts from Japan, the company said Wednesday.
The company described the production cuts as similar to other Toyota affiliates in the region. They may lead to 'delivery delays' for customers, but employees will come to work as normal during the period, the carmaker said.
Normal production was to resume by June 3.
Earlier this month, the company apologized to customers for technical problems that led to the country's largest recall of cars.
Nearly 66,000 Innova model seven-seater minivans and Fortuner sports utility vehicles were recalled across Vietnam for technical failures.
With an annual production capacity of 20,000 vehicles, Toyota Motors Vietnam is the country's largest automaker.
