2011-1219
European aircraft manufacturer Airbus said that Vietnam Airlines has taken delivery of a new wide-body airplane A330-200 to operate flights to destinations across the Asia-Pacific region.
The new Airbus A330 landed on Noi Bai International Airport on Wednesday morning. It is the eleventh A330 to join Vietnam Airlines’ fleet, which is being expanded as part of the national flag airline’s strategy to become one of the leading carriers in Southeast Asia.
Vietnam Airlines had around 27 A321s, ten A320s and ten A330-200s as of October 31. Currently, the Hanoi-headquartered airline operates more than 70 modern aircraft for more than 300 daily flights on 83 routes to 20 domestic and 26 international destinations.
Vietnam Airlines expects to expand its fleet to 115 aircraft by 2015 and 170 by 2020, with new and modern aircraft such as Airbus A350XWB and Boeing 787-9s.
The new aircraft on Wednesday came with a load of three tons of dialysis equipment for the Hanoi Nephrology Hospital to treat patients suffering from chronic kidney failure. The equipment donation was arranged by Professor Jean J Conte from Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse, France and the Association Midi-Pyréneés Santé (Health Association of the Midi-Pyrenees).
The equipment arrived on the new A330 aircraft, following a non-stop flight from the Airbus delivery center in Toulouse in cooperation with the Airbus Corporate Foundation.
