VAMA‘s sales fall 25pct in Feb

In February, 2012, the sales of members of Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers' Association (VAMA) reached 6,116 units, down 25 percent over the same period last year but up over 43 percent in comparison with previous month.
In particular, the sales of multipurpose vehicle decreased 723 units, or 38 percent year-on-year.
The sales of small cars declined 678 units, or 28 percent against the figure of 2,456 units in January 2011. The commercial vehicles also fell 749 units, equivalent to 20 percent over the same period last year.
In comparison with January 2012, the sales of multipurpose vehicle and commercial cars increased 28 percent and 102 percent respectively while the sales for small cars saw negligible changes.
Amongst car manufacturing joint venture companies in Vietnam, Truong Hai firm posted the biggest sales with 1,872 units in February and followed by Toyota with 1,846 units, Vinaxuki at 591 units, GM (534 units) and Ford at 216 units.
Recently, in the forecast on automobile market in 2012, Tachibana, general director of TMV said that 2012 will be a very difficult year for the automobile manufacturing industry and domestic market. VAMA estimated its sales will fall 20 percent this year.
