The test flight for a home-made light helicopter was successfully carried out yesterday in southern Binh Duong Province.
A municipal auto engineer, 50-year-old Nguyen Bui Hien, was the mastermind behind the craft's development.
Twenty years of experience in mechanics had been instrumental in helping him finish the craft, Hien said.
"It took nearly three years to complete the helicopter," he said.
The 250 kilo helicopter is 2.95 metres in length, 1.2 metres in width and 2.4 in height. It can fly at a height of up to 200 metres.
The VND200 million (US$9,500) craft can fly at speeds reaching 150 to 200 kilometres per hour.
